NOGUERA PALLARESA, CRADLE AND VENUE OF WHITE WATER SPORTS

La Noguera Pallaresa, cradle of white water kayaking and adventure sports at the level of the Spanish state, is the host of the oldest competition in white water kayaking with its annual competition, the International Tourist and Sports Rally La Noguera Pallaresa, which started taking place in 1964 (www.kayaksort.cat).

The first rafting company of the Spanish state was born in Sort at the end of the 80s. Nowadays there are 7 adventure sports enterprises carrying out these activities (rafting, hydro speed, canyoning descent, hiking, horse riding outings, bungee jumping...).

In L'Aigüerola kayaking course, located in the river La Noguera Pallaresa on its way through Sort, many different rafting and kayaking international competitions are always taking place; some remarkable ones have been the European Free Style Championship in 2004, and the White Water World Championship in 2010. It also hosts most of the annual national competitions.

Yet, fishing deserves special mentioning. There are 40 km in the river divided into 3 modalities of fishing preserve, capture, catch and release and no kill angling, with one of the best and longest river sections for no kill angling in Catalonia. (www.pescapallars.com).
