The great impulse of hiking in El Pallars Sobirà began in 1996, when the ruling consell comarcal decided to bet at its fullest for the recovery of an ancestral and highly valuable heritage, which was slowly deteriorating: the old trails that communicated among themselves, the bridle paths traditionally linking all the villages and hamlets of the Valleys. From that moment, hiking guide books were being published, a maintenance brigade is constituted, and each year more and newer links are being recovered. The result is an excellent footpath network presenting hikes and excursions, always different, to every corner of the territory.
The township of Sort is also a paradise for hikers with itineraries travelling through a rural world, full of life:
The Valley of Àssua, from Sort to Rialp: Llessui, Seurí, Bernui, Sorre, Altron, Caregue, Surp, Escàs and Rodés.
The Bailiwick of Sort: Olp, Castellviny, Pujalt, Enviny, Llarvén, Montardit de Dalt, Bressui.
Most of the itineraries go below 1.500 m. of height, which means they are practicable though the year without the weather inconveniences of the high mountain and an average annual temperature 12º C.
