The township of Sort has a number of roads connecting the villages of the region. This means that with our own tourist resources we can carry out little excursions where to enjoy the landscapes of a novel.
The two main routes we can do are the Bailiwick and the Valley of Àssua.
Route of the Valley of Àssua
Route: Sort - La Bastida – Altron – Sorre – Bernuí - Saurí - Llessui |
Distance: 13 km |
Road: LV 5223 |
Description:
Starting from Sort, we will drive up the road to Llessui. The first village we come across is La Bastida, and further on, in 4km, Altron. In this last village we may visit the church and the cheese dairy called La Peça d’Altron, where we will be able to taste their own produced cheeses with milk from the region’s cattle.
If we continue on the same road, we will reach Sorre, where we can have a drink of water in the fountain at the entrance of the village, homage to the parish priest Josep Torra. We may also visit the chapel of Sant Antoni and the hermitage of Santa Anna.
In Bernui, the Romanesque church of la Mare de Déu de Bernui will welcome us, with its remains of Baroque paintings and rose windows on the ceiling, and its peculiar story about the ownership of the Mare de Déu (Virgin Mary religious image) between the villages of Bernui and Saurí.

To get to Saurí we will have to turn to the left and get to the village, where we can find the old Romanesque church of Sant Esteve and the church of Sant Victor, as well as the washing tank, where the water is as fresh as can be.
The end of the route is in Llessui, the highest populated village in the Valley of Àssua and economic driving force of the Valley during the years from the 60s to 80s, thanks to its ski resort. We can also visit the Shepherds Museum, a site with a very special guide, who will show us all the life of a shepherd in Llessui thanks to his experience first hand. www.llessui.com

The Bailiwick of Sort
Circular Route: Sort - Montardit de Dalt – Llarvent – Enviny – Pujalt – Olp – Sort. |
Distance: 24,5 km |
Road: LV 5222 and LV 5224 |
The starting point of this route is in Sort towards the village Enviny. We will drive past the village of Montardit de Dalt, where we may stop and see its church, devoted to Santa Cecília and the cross-cairn inside the church itself. Following the road, we drive through Llarvent, a village divided into two parts, one above the road and the other, below, built after the houses in the upper part of the village were burnt.
If we continue driving on the road, we will reach the village of Enviny; at the foot of the road there is a church devoted to Mare de Déu de la Candelera and we may see a copy of the gothic altarpiece. If we access the village on foot, we will get to the trough, the washing tank and the village fountain, all covered by the square.
There we can have a drink of water and make it to the Main Square, just to see the “l’estudi”, this is, the building of the old schools and the setting where the film “Voices of Pamano” was shot.
If we follow the road upwards, we will reach Pujalt, an excellent viewpoint to the town of Sort and its surroundings. We can also visit the Butterfly Museum of Catalonia.
And finally, if we go on driving up, we will get to Olp, where every August they celebrate the Festivals of the Siege of Olp. There are also the church and its neighbouring family states to be visited.
Driving up we will get to the road from Sort to Llessui. Then, we may have to decide between going back to Sort or continue with an excursion to the Valley of Àssua. |
